Highschool Jobs

So, I have heard that having high school jobs can often help when applying to colleges, but can it also hurt you to not have one? I haven't had any legitimate job at all in my 3 years of high school, and I am thinking about getting a job in the few months before the application is due. Though colleges will know that I have only had the job for only a short period, will this help at all? It really feels awkward leaving a section of the common apps completely blank.

Final Note: If I do find myself job searching in the next few days, would working at a fast food restaurant or a local library help me at all? Or would I be better off just doing nothing.

Thanks for any feedback.

really hoping to get a reply

I don’t think it would make much of a difference either way. If you’re just doing it for admissions purposes then I’d skip it, but uf you want/need the money then go for it. I think most colleges rate ECs equal or higher than jobs, but either way they want to see commitment and dedication. In the end do what you enjoy.

im a senior in hs and i just got my first job this summer for the experience, the money, and for putting it on apps. you can’t really go wrong with working. no reason to not do it, unless you’re already highly committed to things. i am keeping the job through the school year too, until spring when i have volleyball.

some colleges look for work experience too. not all, though. a lot of colleges also consider volunteer experience as equal to work experience. you just have to look into specific schools.
