For my Junior and Senior year I have worked at a pizza place to make necessary money for college. Compared to the applicant pool I have average EC's including Mock Trial and environmental work. Will adding my employment to my app be a positive addition that shows my determination to make money for future education? Also my family makes $150,000 which is obviously a good living but not enough to avoid student loans. Will colleges see my family earnings and disregard my employment as not as important?
Thanks

It depends on the school. On a Tulane admissions blog, it said they valued jobs as much as a varsity sport. Look at the common data set for each school - they may “consider” or deem “important” work experience. It shows dedication, drive, and determination. They won’t really put your job in the context of your family’s income, as far as I’m aware. You can’t really tell them that you got the job to pay for college - and even if you did, that’s probably a pretty cliche reason among college applicants who have had a job.

I’m not sure that making money for future education is a strong enough reason behind the job, because it only says something about the job’s rewards and nothing about your commitment to the job itself. There should be some more substance, passion or some sort of story to go along with it and make it stand out as an extracurricular. If you have that, then I don’t think your family’s earnings will matter to them in considering your job.

Many schools will deem work experience as a plus – like another good EC.
