EMT-B Certification (not an Is It Good For Med School Thread)

Ok, so I'm a freshman at Cornell University, and I plan on joining the volunteer CU EMS service. They mandate that you get your EMT-B certification within a year of joining, which I would probably do next semester. I am a Texas resident, which brings me to my question. My question is that since I would be taking it here in Ithaca, I would get a NYS EMT-B cert, would I be able to use that/would it be valid in Texas when I go home during summers and stuff if I wanted to ride with a truck there?

I figured I'd ask here since so many people seem to get their EMT's to try and get into med school.
