EMT training for undergrads?

I would really like to be certified as an EMT and work part time while in college, or over summers in college. When I interviewed with Harvard, my interviewer said it would be very do-able to do the training in one summer and work part time the next four summers. I have started to do some research on this, and all the places Im looking (local community college) have 12 month full time programs. I definitely wont be able to do that. Are there any programs at stanford specifically designed for this. or any EMT programs that an undergrad could take? thanks for your help

You might want to look at Rice University for the EMT program. Some of the premeds go through it and are allowed to work at EMT’s as undergrads.

I didnt apply to Rice; I plan on attending stanford next year, so if there are any current students who know of people who did something like this, I would really like to hear about it. thanks though, Van

Xargon, maybe someone at Stanford Medical School/Center would be able to point you in the right direction. You might call or email them and see. Their webpage is [Stanford University School of Medicine](http://www.med.stanford.edu).

The webpage at [StEMS - Join StEMS](http://stems.stanford.edu/join.html) talks about Stanford classes leading to a “basic” EMT certification.

I’m a NJ EMT-B and was accepted to Stanford EA. The national EMT curriculum is a 120 hour course, clinicals, final practicals, and a final written exam (for CA, you take the National Registry exam.) Some classes split the course over several months, some take several weeks. I took a class that met 3 nights a week and several sundays over the course of two months. I would suggest contacting your local community colleges, hospitals, and paramedic services and asking if they offer any courses with this type of schedule. Let me know if you have any questions

thanks shaka, Ill look into that.
