endowment figures?

are these the correct ones?

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0112636.html

Partially. Many schools have multiple endowments and many are not under the main school name.

Hummm It says University of texas at austin 2,346,902,618 ?Wikipedia claims it to be 5 bi...

those are old figures, probably from about 2003.

this is more up to date, as of 2005. many schools have released there 2006 figures, but you'd probably ahve to look at individual school pages to see if they have them updated or not. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_colleges_and_universities_by_endowment

Needs work...................

what needs work?

Jags, the link provided by BBall and yourself are identical. The only difference is that your link provides a total endowment figure for the entire UC and TEXAS A&M systems (each has at least 6 large campuses) and the 2006 endowment figure for Cornell (every other university has 2005 figures)whereas BBall's link provides figures for Texas A&M and the UCs by campus and has Cornell's 2005 figures.

The UW System does not have over $1 Billion. More like $400 Million 95% of which is for Madison. The UW Madison Foundation alone has $1.3 Billion and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation has about $1.7 Billion all of which goes to Madison.

alexandre,

my link is different in more than just those ways. almost every school has been updated. notice harvard is up about $250 million. Yale up 130 million, duke $600 million, northwestern $500 million, UVa 1.1 billion - just to name a few.

bballs list seems to mix and match years - at leas the wikipedia one is more consistent.

also, barrons, i believe you are wrong about wisconsin.

even according to this source, which is 2/3 years old, wisconsin has over $1 billion - http://www.ir.ufl.edu/nat_rankings/privatesup/endow_old.pdf

I am separating the UW System which includes all campuses and the UW Madison which is the main campus. The link said UW System which is wrong. Here are some 2005 figures that are more accurate excluding the WARF funds.

Rank June 30, 2005 June 30, 2004 One-year
change

U of Wisconsin Madison Fdn $1,124,855 $994,172 13.1%

Medical C of Wisconsin $404,110 $372,535 8.5%

U of Wisconsin System $277,586 $270,208 2.7%

well, i don't understand what you mean by the wisconsin foundation and what not. Its just a system wide pooling of money. If you want to get super technical thats fine - but for general purposes, its total money holdings and investments is worth over $1 billion.

Well, when you get into large wealthy systems like Texas and California it matters more. The UC System may have $8 Billion or whatever but UCLA only gets the benefits of $2 Billion of that. That is why it is important to know what data they are representing. It just shows whoever put the data together was sloppy or did not know what they were doing.

well i guess what i don't understand is that what you have written is

university of wisconsin madison foundation - $1.12 billion

university of wisconsin system - $277 million

did you write it reversed?

The most up-to-date figures on college/university endowments come from the annual survey of endowments by the National Association of College & University Business Officers (nacubo.org) The endowment figures are as of June 30 each year. The latest is from June 30, 2005. Google up "nacubo and 2005 endowment". Then look up table one with all the 2005 endowment figures by college/university.

No. The UW System is a different source and has nothing to do with UW Foundation. The UW System only holds that amount for the benefit of UW Madison mostly with a little to the rest. The rest are held by individual campuses in their own foundations.

If somebody wants to add up all the individual campus funds and call it UW System they can but it is more than what they showed--that's all. None of the numbers are correct from that source.
