I just looked at the updated engineering requirements. It seems like Engineering 10 is now only required for mechanical engineers, AND it's at 8-9 MWF :(. Do you guys know if there has been a change in the class-- I've heard that they've been talking about getting rid of it for a few years now. Have they finally restructured it?

It used to be at least 3 professors from different departments in College Engineering teaching a 6-week module for the past 3~4 years. For this fall semester, every professor outside of ME bailed out since students expressed semester after semester that it was an unworthy class in terms of learning.

So yes, the structure of the class has certainly changed since having 6-week module for each department is impossible when you just have one professor. I’m sure the ME department is also debating itself if they should keep the class or axe it. It’s under a major chaos like changing its lecture time and lab time this late in May. I would wait until next spring semester when they figure out this mess and re-organize the entire curriculum. Who knows, maybe they might completely kill the class…

I sound pretty cynical, but I will say I really enjoyed this class when I took it 2 years ago and I will miss it if they kill the class. It was the only time that I get to explore other engineering majors and the first time working in group projects getting to know the people that i still contact with even though they are in different engineering department. In fact, it is a good class to judge if engineering is the right path for you.

Do you have a link to the updated engineering requirements?

I think that link is the updated announcement since they included Energy Engineering major and got rid of E10 (or at least put them as optional instead of required) for most majors.
