I heard engineering, specifically chemical and mechanical engineering, are supremely difficult to get into at UCSB? I heard it was something like a 4% acceptance rate to the COE for those majors because they like to keep the # of students in COE low. Many of the students rejected from COE were later admitted to College of Letters and Science, but again, the COE acceptance rate was low. Does this sound reasonable? is it true that it's honestly that difficult to get into engineering there?

It is difficult to get into Engineering in many UC’s not just UCSB. If you look at the Freshman Profiles for the each UC, expect the GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores to be higher than the average posted which means a UC GPA of 4.0+ and SAT of 2000+/ACT of 30+.
