I'm thinking of going into biomedical engineering but I really dislike the north campus because central campus is where ann arbor's really at. Can anyone tell me how about many of my classes will be in central campus? I know that they're just building a new biomedical building in north campus that will open in 2006, which is when I'm planning to attend. I just don't want to be stuck in the north the whole time! Thanks!

Wait...so I guess all engineering students are put at North Campus which is where all their classes are and they will be cut off from the rest of the Ann Arbor campus? Does that mean we will have trouble meeting others who are completing other majors? Or do engineering students take classes throughout the entire campus with people in different majors? I guess it would kind of suck if all engineering majors were secluded to one section of campus.

Engineering students are assigned to dorms at random just like anybody else. And you can certainly live wherever you want after that. You will have many classes on central campus. Especially those first two years. As a matter of fact, if you live on North Campus, you'd have to take the bus to central and vice-versa. Certainly don't pick your major based on which campus the classes are on!

i'm going into biomed engin too and i just visited umich yesterday. i know north campus seems really lonely and desolate and such, but i liked it. it's a very tranquil atmosphere, very serious, and i think they did that on purpose. if you're an engin. you mean business and that means no distractions. i actually thought north campus was lovely, but i can see what you mean, it's a totally different vibe from central campus.

Thanks for all your comments.. just wanted to add that I talked to an engineering student at umich and she said that in her freshmen year, she only had one class in north campus!

Yes as an engineering freshman you will only have one engineering class a semester on North Campus (Engin 100 + 101) are the 2 classes. My boyfriend is actually an engineer (mechanical) but he is remaning on central next year, so it can be done.
