I’m looking at majoring in computer engineering and I am interested in this school. I really want to go to a college in a big city, and I feel like this is a great place for me; the campus is beautiful, the people seem very supportive from what I’ve heard, and there is a lot to do in St. Louis. I have a couple of questions about the engineering program. Is it just as rigorous as an engineering school in the west coast like UC Berkley or UCLA? Also, is it easy to get internships?
My son attended WPI in MA and his close friend attended SLU. Both studied ECE. Son said his friend’s coursework was very similar to his. Friend obtained an internship through SLU between JR/SR year and landed a permanent job after graduation. SLU might not top the charts from a recognition standpoint, but like many things it often what you make of the opportunity given to you. A small program with supportive faculty is great. I would recommend you consider SLU. WPI is also a very fine school. It is a rigorous program. It has a term schedule where students complete 4 seven week terms per year, 3 courses per term. It does not require a ton of general education courses. It incorporates projects in both JR and SR years. Very happy with my son’s education there. Worcester, MA isn’t as friendly as St. Louis and it snows a lot there!! The one downside. Good luck!
