Engineering at UCONN

Is it easier to get into the engineering program at UCONN if you are a girl?

Hi peoples. I see u have posted several questions and I just wanted to let u know that, in general, this is not a very active forum until closer to the time that decisions come out. There are a few people who are kind enough to pop in and contribute but not on a regular basis. So don’t get frustrated with the lack of quick response that you might see on other forums. I am the mom of an incoming freshman so I really can’t help yet. I can tell you that unlike some other schools, admissions to UConn is not predictable.

Regarding this specific post of yours, I have an older student who is studying engineering at another school, so I can tell you that while being female is a “hook” for engineering in general, it is not a pass (meaning if you don’t have the qualifications, you still won’t be admitted…so not easier just because you are female…it just means that if you and a male are being considered for a single spot, and you are both equally qualified, you will have that gender advantage and will likely get the spot). So, while your grades are great, you do need to bring your test score up. If you have trouble bringing the SAT score up, try the ACT since it is a different format and works well for people with a strength in math and science.

More than that I can’t say because I really don’t have any working knowledge yet of UConn and my incoming husky is not going into engineering. Best of luck to you.
