Engineering Forum Moderator

I only shut down people like Homer that have no idea what they are talking about. The only arguments that I ever refute come from kids (many seem to be business majors) that are usually jealous of engineers or just totally misinformed. People like Homer are totally ruining the purpose of the engineering forum, which is to provide factual information to people interested in engineering. Bone, the only reason I am bringing this up is because, in my opinion, this is a serious problem. We need a moderator to get rid of people just here to bash engineering with absolutley NO experience or even an engineering degree to back it up. I don’t find this to be that unreasonable. Think about how ridiculous it is that a kid with an accounting degree is doing nothing but bashing a career that he knows nothing about. If other people don’t think that people like Homer are taking away from the engineering forum, then so be it. It is not my intent to hijack the thread at all.

Moderator please close this thread that has gone off topic…

Oh wait. We don’t have one.

HEY! We’re back on topic! Whoop-dee-doo!

Haha, well if you want a mid, click that link and post your support for appointing a new mod. You don’t have to give a name, just let it be known that you think we need a mod. We need to get people to support it to hopefully light a fire under the staff’s collective butt.

@ Homer

Destiny awaits:

Boneh3ad, I have been reading some of your posts and they are very informative. I nominate you as the new moderator to keep the engineering forum orderly.

I honestly believe that the engineering forum requires a moderator. It is senselessly bombarded with the same old questions over and over that could be easily answered if Stickies and FAQs were kept up to date. However, since we require to call upon another person to come to the engineering forum to do such a task for us, by the time it gets done, the information may be obsolete. (For example, the 2010 rankings were finally put up only to have the 2011 rankings to come out a few weeks after and it needs to be replaced)

It would be appreciated by me, and those of us who take part in the engineering sub-forum discussion if we could at least get a reply to our request.

Thank you.

^^

Put my 2 cents in as well. I neglected to add that I believe boneh3ad should be the mod as well except I rather not make that topic seem as a “not so discreet campaign” for boneh3ad to be moderator. >.>

OK boneh3ad, if you want to be a mod so bad, then I will also give you my vote. ;-)

Hey, The Engineering Moderator job is frickin golden, and I’m not givin it away for frickin nothin. If Boneh3ad wants to be appointed, he’ll have to have someone contribute to my “Friends of Balthezar” fund. Thanks for the tip on how to handle this Rod!

To the powers that be,

Please give us an Engineering Forum moderator to keep relevant “sticky” information up to date, as well as keep the forum topics on topic. This person should be knowledgeable and passionate about engineering. Also, this person should be someone who has a visible presence on the forum a good amount of the time. Many on the forum, including myself, feel the member boneh3ad should fill this position.

Thanks!

^ LOL! Hello fellow Chicagoan!

Geeeeeez! Who ever said I wanted to do it? Haha. I just want SOMEONE to do it.

And Balthezar, I will not donate to that fund. I have to get money into my own fund first.

Hey, maybe the Original “This is F**** Golden” Rod is available? He can Mod from prison, right?

I for one think Homer is HILARIOUS!

I also nominate boneh3ad. I believe he will be an excellent moderator.

Bestowing my 2,917 posts’ worth of seniority voting upon nominating boneh3ad, someone, anyone, for mod. It’s kind of a free-for-all in there at times, and it’d help to have someone active in the forum to watch over things. I’d offer but boneh3ad’s a grad student and needs something else to consume his time. ;)

Not it! Added my two cents to the pro-mod thread, though.

I nominate Boneh3ad.

The best way to see the requested stickies is to … prepare them and ask the mod to sticky them. In general terms, fewer but well chosen stickies work better than having a slew of poor ones.

This work does NOT have to be related to a potential nomination to be a mod. Anyone can prepare a sticky for submission.

Do the work and the sticky should appear. But do not expect the reverse scenario to happen.

Welcome to the engineering board, xiggi, where we have already tried that to no avail.

Nice try though. We have tried to get things stickied and it either never happens, takes so long that the topic gets buried and lost, or takes so long that when it does actually get stickied, the information is already out of date.

The problem is, there are no mods that ever circulate through this forum… ever. The only way we get them through here is by reporting a lot of posts or by PM-ing them to request something, and in my experience, that only works maybe 10% of the time. We don’t necessarily need a mod who stays exclusively in the engineering forum, but we do need a mod that is at least familiar with it and frequents this board so that they know what is going on.
