I’m doing a double major in aerospace engineering and math. Here is my experience.

The engineering curriculum is more rigorous. More classes are are required for the engineering degree. At my school, you have to take about 2 classes a semester for math and about 4 classes a semester for engineering.

The average math class is more challenging. It’s a lot harder (almost impossible, unless you’re a genius) to completely understand everything in a math class, especially in a proof-based one.

The average engineering class requires more effort. This goes hand in hand with the point above. You can’t get by on smarts alone in engineering. There are group projects which are a lot of work and you have to memorize a lot more (my electronics class comes to mind).

It’s harder to get a good grade in a math class. Most of my math classes have little to no curve, while in engineering you get get a 60% and still have a B. Also, my math grades are almost exclusively determined by test scores and I have no opportunity to boost my grade if I screw up.
