<p>Hi, I have a few questions about the Cornell Engineering First-Year Student Info Form that I thought some of you guys could help me with.</p>
<p>On my application form, I originally put down Mechanical&Aerospace Engineering, but I do have abundant interest in the fields of EE, and nanotechnology (and at the moment, I am seriously considering ECE or Materials over MechE for a major.)</p>
<p>So, a couple of courses on the course list stand out to me:</p>
<p>ENGRI 102: Introduction to Nanoscience and Nanoengineering
ENGRI 172: Computation, Information, and Intelligence
ENGRI 111: Nanotechnology
ENGRI 117: Introduction to Mechanical Engineering</p>
<p>If any of you guys here have had any direct or indirect experiences with these courses or their respective professors, can you tell me a little about them? And what is the major difference between ENGRI102 and 111, besides that they are in AEP and MSE, respectively? Finally, how much will my selection of or grade in an ENGRI course affect my future selection of a major?</p>
<p>And also, I've noticed that there is no 'Introduction to EE' like there is for MechE -- the closest thing to it that I can see is ENGRI 172, which worries me, as I am not very proficient in any programming languages (and is this going to be a problem if I eventually choose to major in ECE?) I am much more interested in pure EE rather than CS.</p>
<p>On another topic, I know that there is the math placement exam during orientation, but is there a way to definitely determine which science course I get to take? I (hopefully) will have credit for AP Physics Mech and EM, but have never taken (nor have been given a chance) to take any other AP science. I probably will want to take a chem course first semester, right?</p>
<p>And one last question, is there a penalty to taking CS100 second semester, as some of the intro courses I want to take are available first semester? And what is the deal with the AEW 'pre-enrollment'? (What exactly is pre-enrollment anyways, does it mean I can choose to enroll in it later if I decide not to at the moment?) Are these AEW's difficult or time-consuming, and are they worth taking for 1 credit each?</p>
