Engineering major? Or too much of a reach?

Hey, I'm a high school senior who has already applied to UMBC, UMD, and Georgia tech. For each of these applications I put my major as "engineering-undecided." Most people I've spoken to said I shouldn't have done this, because great engineering schools will be more selective of an engineer major, I've talked to an officer at UMD, and he said that students are accepted to the school as a whole first, then considered for the college of engineering. My questions is do I have a lower chance of even getting into these colleges at all because of my major choice? And if I don't get into a school of engineering what do you guys suggest I do?

GPA: 3.57 weighted
SAT: 1840
ACT: 28
Have taken: AP Physics B,AP Physics C AP Calc BC, AP Lang, AP Human Geography, AP Chem, AP U.S. Government
I also go to one of the best public high schools in maryland, specializing in the STEM field.

If the school does not admit you directly into a major, it does not matter.

Which school do you go to in Maryland? Montgomery Blair? I basically had the same statistics but an unweighted GPA of 4.0 throughout my high school but I got rejected by Georgia Tech.

At one of the best public high schools in maryland the guidance staff should be very familiar with where previous students have been accepted. Stop by and chat with them about your chances.
