Can you share your experiences in this major?
What kind of engineering are you studying/studied?
What was it like in terms of difficulty and time spent studying? what were the intro classes like?
What things did you do to be successful?
How different was it from what you thought it would be?

Right now I’m a BioE major at UMD. In terms of difficulty and time spent studying, its definitely much more than I expected, especially for the intro classes like BIOE120, and ESPECIALLY ENES100, which IMO is all fluffed up to be more confusing and complicated than it needs to be. It’s clear that they’re meant to test your limits, which can be really frustrating, but I guess they’re similar to courses you would take at any other school. Being an engineer requires a hell of a lot more time studying than other Libsci majors, like english. I often envy how much free time they have, but in the end it will be worth it. I would say to be successful, don’t overload yourself on credits, especially freshman year, and use ourumd.com to pick good professors, it definitely makes a difference.
