Engineering Mechanics vs Mechanical Engineering?

I applied for mechanical engineering, but I got accepted for engineering mechanics.

Reading this, engineering mechanics just seems like a dumb-downed version of mechanical engineering, but I want to know what the exact differences are.

I would be interested in the same! Did you find any information? I see no one responded to your question. My son was admitted to Engineering Mechanics at Madison and Mechanical Engineering at UIUC and a number of other places. All quite confusing for an outsider.

PS I do not have the impression there is ANYTHING dumbed-down at UIUC, or in any ABET credential program in a college of engineering for that matter. I am sure the differences are in manner of approach, not in rigor of content. Let’s see if anyone else responds.

I sitll don’t know anything aside from what’s on UIUC’s website. My counselor doesn’t know either.

I believe Engineering Mechanics covers other topics and does not posses as narrow of a scope as Mechanical Engineering. I was accepted for Engineering Mechanics too.

I just spoke to an adviser about this yesterday! She said that Engineering Mechanics covers the same materials as Mechanical Engineering “Plus” a little bit more. She guided me to the U of I website where each engineering major is covered more in depth than in the brochure during the visit. Sorry I don’t know more than this either.
