I applied to Illinois early action and got accepted to the CoE. I just got an email yesterday saying that I was awarded one of their engineering scholarships. They said that all details would be given by March 1st, 2018, so I guess they compare applications to regular decision ones for their amounts. Has anyone else gotten this yet?
I applied business but haven’t heard about any merit based scholarships yet. What were your stats?
@WashUH0peful From what I understand, the engineering school has a lot of funding and thus gives out a lot of their own scholarships, so it shouldn’t be affecting you as you applied to business. In general, I think people won’t find out until February/March. However, I will post some of my stats if other people are wondering.
In-State, female
ACT: 35C (34R, 35E, 36S, 36M)
GPA: 3.98UW, idk what it is weighted but all honor/AP classes
7 AP classes (two 4s, five 5s), four more senior year
Math Team, Science Olympiad including state awards, Theatre director, NHS, peer tutor, Marching Band Section leader, science research intern, museum intern
@realgar I got one, but it’s basically the same situation as yours. Engineering, no dollar amount, more details by March 1st.
@realgar @audreykoz My D got the same email. Did you get mail about James Scholar Honor Program? My S(accepted in LAS) got the mail but my D didn’t get it.
one thing to note, you can get James Scholar without getting a merit scholarship and vice versa (yo)
@3lovingmom
I didn’t get any mail yet, but there’s still like a 2 month period for everything to be sent out, so I’m hoping I’ll get in. The scholarship bit is still great!
My kid got an email from UIUC yesterday. She is awarded Engineering Freshmen Scholarship(5k)and MechasE Outstanding Scholarship(3k) per year. The latter is renewable for 4 year conditionally(GPA 3.3).
@3lovingmom may I ask if you are in state or OOS? Has anyone else gotten word of merit scholarships? I know notification will be soon but wondering if they are all already out. Thanks.
@stloumom We’re in state.
Any Engineering Students heard anything on Merit? Particularly OOS.
I found out that I received a $4,000 engineering scholarship called the Engineering Freshmen Scholarship on 2/23 (nonrenewable)
@audreykoz Have you received any notification about James Scholar? Like you, my S found out on 2/23 that he received an Engineering Freshman Scholarship, but has not received any news about James Scholar. Thanks
I emailed the College of Engineering this morning, inquiring about when merit scholarships went out. Here is the reply:
Good morning,
The emails went out to the incoming freshman who received merit-based scholarships at the end of February. If your son did not receive an email, unfortunately there were no available funds. After his first semester of grades, he can apply for College and departmental scholarships as a continuing student. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,

Do female computer science applicant get any boost in admission? If the female candidate has very high unweighted GPA above 3.95 and courses like like Multi variable calculus, AP Physics C, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP US History, AP language etc. in high school?
I understand the CS-Engineering admits are approaching 50% women. So, maybe a slight advantage, but still extremely competitive, especially in regard to CS related extracurriculars from admitted student drafts posted here.
Does anyone know if the CS Department announced the recipient of the Frima Lutuskaya Scholarship?
