I was hoping someone could provide some insight into my chances at getting into the following schools as an engineering major (electrical or possibly chemical). The schools I am looking into are - Ohio State, University of Dayton, University of Cincinnati, Michigan State, and Purdue (reach). I am from north west Ohio and would like to stay in the area (within 5 hours or so).
Here are my stats -

GPA (4.0 Scale) - 3.8
Class Rank - top 15%

ACT -
25 composite, 27 Science, 27 Reading, 25 Math, 21 English (I know some of these schools require writing, which I have not taken, and so I will be retaking the ACT soon)

Schedule - 5 Maths (including Pre-calc and a college level), 6 Science (including Chemistry and physics), 4 English, and I have taken Psychology and Business Administration as a PSO student (A's in both)

Extracurricular - Basketball and Football, NHS, 100+ Volunteering

I know some of those schools are definitely a stretch for me. If you can think of any schools I should look into that are in my area please feel free to mention them.

Also I am interested in Pharmacy, and have been looking into Ohio Northern. What do you think my chances are there to be admitted to 0-6 program? (I know this is harder to guess at due to more variables such as interviews). I like the 0-6 route but if you think there is a school I should look into, please mention it.

Retake the ACT and focus on increasing all your scores. Especially the English section! Your GPA/class rank suggest a higher ACT score is within reach! If so, all the schools you apply to will be low reaches.
Any other ECs/awards?

I believe I can get a higher ACT Score, especially in the English and Reading subsections (I’ve always done well in English classes). I think if I could get the composite up to around 27 it would look a lot better.

As far as others EC’s go, I do participate in some church groups at my parish. However, the time involved in those is pretty small (15 hours or so a year) and I didn’t think it worth mentioning. I have received a few small awards/scholarships for my high school (I go to private high school with a tuition, they give out scholarships each year to some students), again I thought these were below mentioning.

Also, I have thought of looking more into Marketing/Business Administration. Miami University , Dayton, and Duquesne seem like they should be obtainable if I went that route. What do you think?
I know not having my major locked down may be an issue, but I do know I want to do one of three mentioned (Pharm, Engineering, Marketing Management)

Thank you Catria,
It is very reassuring to know most of those schools should be obtainable.

What are some pharmacy schools that I would be a good match for? I know most are dependent upon PCAT scores, but just out of curiosity where should I look? I’ve been looking into Ohio Northern and think I could have decent chances of getting into their 0-6 program. Also I have looked at Cedarville (their program is a bit different, more early assurance than direct accept) and university of Findlay. I like EA/direct accept versus going pre-pharm and then applying to pharm school, the former route seems a lot less stressful.
Thanks again

Okay, thank you for your help Catria. My ACT score was the first time I’d taken it (writing the low english score off as nerves) and I will be retaking it in the coming month, hopefully raising the score a couple of points.
Thank you again, I appreciate it
