I am a senior wondering where to apply for electrical or mechanical engineering but I’m still unsure of the type I want to go into. I have a 3.9 unweighted gpa taking the most rigorous courses my school has to offer (11 APs and the rest honors) and got a 1390 on the new sat (720 math, 670 reading). I know its late to select schools to apply to but I never seriously considered anywhere but UMD or Virginia Tech. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good engineering schools on the east coast that mesh with my gpa and sats? I feel like I should go for somewhere like a Carnegie Mellon but the cost and my low sats make me wonder if I should even apply. Thanks in advance.
UMD and Virginia Tech have very good engineering programs.
A 1390 on the new SAT is about a 1970 on the old SAT and about a 30 on the ACT.
What’s your state of residence? Try using the SuperMatch tool:
URochester might be within your range.
RPI - you have a shot with your stats. Excellent engineering.
Cost constraints?
Stats are nice, but your comment about CMU means cost is a factor. What is your budget? I really wish people would include that most important stat of all. What else do you seek in a school? Size, vibe, activities, etc.
You should retake the ACT and SAT which will be in time for RD.
