Senior admitted to the following, struggling to make a decision: Va Tech, NC State, Purdue, Texas A&M (also in at Penn State and Minnesota, but does not have interest) - criteria were large school with good tradition and "big school sports" and a well regarded engineering program -

Looks like each of those schools meet your criteria, and all are well regarded for engineering. Time for some secondary criteria. What else is important to you? Cost, location, weather, specific major, co-op, etc?

Cost to me, as A&M has offered good scholarship - weather not a huge factor - he’s a little concerned A&M does not offer as broad a view to their engineering tracks

What kind of engineering? A&M definitely has a different culture than the other choices. My son could not see himself there with the emphasis on the core. What part of the country are you from. Purdue is tough in the winter if you are not used to winters in the north or midwest.

from chicago - undecided on engineering though looking at biomedical to start

Has he visited all of his options? Friend, OOS as well, at Purdue loves it although ended up changing majors within engineering due to struggles with some of the weed out courses. Blacksburg is tough to get to.
Son, not an engineering major, will be starting at NCSU this fall. Centennial Campus is very impressive and lots of benefits being so close to a city if that is of any interest.

thank you - we just drove to/from raleigh to blacksburg - pretty drive but not much fun if hauling gear - and we would be making trip from chicago -

Has your son been accepted to the Biomedical Engineering program at NC State? It’s a very good program that is a joint program with UNC-CH and their School of Medicine. Here’s the link - [UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering - Home](<a href=“NCSU Office of Assessment highlights what BME has done to become stronger among Graduate students - Joint BME”>http://www.bme.ncsu.edu/) . One of my son’s best friends is at NC State in Electrical Engineering and is very happy. All your son’s choices are good. Good luck!
