Engineering specilalty - which one should I choose?

Do you guys know why there is such a large salary difference between different engineering fields? I will probably major in engineering but have not decided in what specific discipline (looking at mech, civil, chem, maybe aero).

Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mostly supply and demand. Pick based on what you like to do most.

I wouldn't pick based on the salary. Almost all fields of engineering pay pretty well, and you want a job that you like and can tolerate waking up every morning to go to work. My dad isn't happy with his job too often. I know that I don't want to be in his situation when I'm his age.

Assuming you're not yet in college, you don't need to choose a major yet anyway. Almost all engineering majors take the same first year classes from what I've heard, so find out what you like to do after a year, and pursue that. That's what I'd do. . .

Can you post some of the different salaries you have seen ? I didn't think there was much of a difference.

I tend to agree with collegehelp, pick what you enjoy to do.

Also have you considered computer science or chemical engineering ?
