Engineering to Business...

Hey guys, I'm an incoming freshman at Nova and I applied about a week ago to switch from the College of Engineering to the Business School. I think I am on a wait list to get in, but if this doesn't work out is there anyway I can switch into the school as a sophomore without being lightyears behind everyone else:/ I'm freaking out slightly.

Hi khaleesi (love the name, big GoT fan),

I just graduated from the business school, but have many friends from my dorm freshman year that started in engineering and switched into business. In my experience, many people who try to switch before freshman year are able to get it, but for those who aren’t, switching thereafter (sophomore year in your question) happens all the time. You would not be so far behind if you got in sophomore year – each of my friends who did the same graduated on time and didn’t have to cram to get everything in.

Assuming you don’t get in or choose to remain in the College of Engineering, there are many ways to still get some business exposure. Summer Business Institute (SBI) is a program that gets you a business minor in one summer, which many of my friends chose to do also. It is also possible to get a business minor without doing SBI, but it will involve adding some extra classes here and there. Also, there is an entrepreneurship program within the College of Engineering that is growing in popularity and is a great way to combine the two disciplines.

Let me know if there are any more questions that I can help you with!
