Engineering to Math and Economics?

Currently a freshman doing mechanical engineering. I ended up not doing so hot in an engineering mechanics class with mainly sophomores in it, but fortunately dropped the class. Retaking it this semester to see if I can get a better grade, but I'm not optimistic. Have been considering a switch to mathematical economics and mathematics double major, as I've somewhat lost interest in working in engineering and would rather do something in energy trading or banking. Point is, I've got a couple weeks where I can add classes without a fee (would add another economics and statistics class), but I'd like to give this engineering thing a final shot. Should I give this class more than a couple weeks, or just switch my schedule to avoid having to play too much catch up in the new classes?

I was in mechanical engineering and then I switched to math for the same reasons...

now I'm back in mechanical engineering.
