I was wondering if you all could help me decide which college I should attend next year. I am looking at mechanical or chemical engineering. I have applied as engineering general at all locations. With scholarships Kstate is my cheapest followed by University of St. Thomas and then finally KU.The GPAs required to keep the scholarship is 3.5, 2.8, and 3.4 respectively. I was wondering which of these schools has the best reputation for engineering? Also if you had to choose a school to go to or to send your student which would you pick?
WOW, 3.5 to keep a scholarship in Engineering is … wow, almost undoable. Keep in mind that engineering classes often have averages in the 50s and a 2.9/3.0 in engineering is considered quite good.
As far as costs go:
Can you list for each university
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) =?
Do not count any loan, work study, etc.
Also, can you give us your stats (GPA, test scores, any AP ?) so that we can compare them with the top 25% at each university?
Finally, have you applied to any other university?
For general engineering, between KSU and KU it sounds like a wash to me. Getting specific, mechanical/aerospace is very good at KU, while in recent years KSU is doing a lot of bioengineering, renewable and sustainable energy research. Don’t know anything about St. Thomas.
@MYOS1634 30 ACT. 3.94 weighted. 3.66 unweighted. UST- $17,564. KU $17,998. Kstate $$14,366. These numbers in include tuition, room, and board.
I have also applied to Drake, Arkansas, Creighton. My parents wont let me go to Arkansas and Drake/Creighton are too expensive. I recently decided to switch from pharmacy to engineering.
