Got ENGL 1167: Great New Books as my first year writing seminar with Charles Robert Green...I'm worried a little about my workload this first semester. I'll be taking MATH 1920, CS 1110 (Intro Computing Using Python), PHYS 1112, ENGRI 1210 (Modern Computing Devices) along with my PE.

Could anyone tell me about the workload of ENGL 1167 compared to the other FWSs and if you recommend taking it or not? Any input (firsthand or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated!

By reputation, English FWS courses are more difficult. If I were you, I’d drop a class and you can probably get away with dropping any of the classes on your list. Absolutely no reason any freshman should be taking 5 classes their first semester. Unless your major has particularly demanding course requirements (and few do), trying to fill as many requirements as possible in your first semester should be the last thing on your mind.

I’d recommend dropping either P1112, ENGRI 1210, or CS 1110. You should take your FWS and math class first semester.

It’s very difficult to tell which FWS is more difficult, although english dept FWS’s tend to be more demanding. My advice for the FWS is to basically SWITCH OUT ASAP if you find you don’t like your course/instructor and/or you find it too demanding.

I’ll be a freshman too with a really similar schedule actually. Woo, engineering.

I had no idea FWS’s in the English department were known to be more intense, yet at the same time, it seems incredibly obvious now. I guess I could just drop the FWS if it turns out to be too demanding.
