Currently a freshman. Tired of English 101.First essay I had A and then I had C.After C, it takes me forever to write a paper.Infact before I turned in the "C" paper I went with it to the writing center. But looks like it didnt help much.......
Anyways, now I've an idea!
What if I drop the course from this semester. Then take SAT in October. Try to score higher than before so that I can place out of this English classes, atleast from ENg101......DO u think thats possible?

I am not sure if you can submit an SAT score after you have started. However, you might check into the "placement" exams, clep or something of that nature to see how to place out of it. Sorry to hear of your troubles. You can get an appt with your advisor by phone or in person and let her give you your options.

Advice from a writer/editor (with a son applying to UNC for next year): Stick with English 101. Don't try to test out of it. I can't tell you how important a college-level writing course is--even if it's hard, even if it takes you forever to write a paper, even if you're not getting the grades you expect. Writing ability will be critical to the rest of your college work, and it will be very important in your professional life. I work with many professionals who struggle to express themselves in writing, and it's a problem.

If you got a C, there's a reason. But you only got one C, so isn't it possible that the topic was challenging, or you were tired, or you were just having a bad day? Get more help from the writing center. Find someone you trust to read your papers and give you feedback. Better yet, start a study group with others from your class so you can give each other support and feedback. Think of it as an investment in your future. Good luck!

LadyTar - I agree with geezermom, you do need to stick with this class. My daughter also went to the writing center and it helped her with her paper to a certain point. She received the most help and advice from her professor, so I would go talk to your professor and let him or her look over your paper. Her professor was very helpful and they get a participation grade for going to talk to their professor. The professors really do want to help, so make an appointment and go let your professor read over your next paper.

i'm in english 101 too .. i got a C on my first paper because i didnt write in the right style and then the next paper i wrote a really boring one and got an A. go figure. i made a 4 on my AP and a 640 on writing, both which were just under what i needed to place out. i wish i had requested placement. i am frustrated with that class as well. my teacher couldn't tell me why he gave me a C on the first paper either.

MyD is in 101, too.. but hasn't shared her grades with me (from any of her classes)...She was very frustrated to have to take it, too, but I think it'll be good for her. Start off again with the basics again and pick up some tips.

well after that C, i have gotten 2 A's on my last 2 papers... we're rollin' now.
