English and Korean Name

Hello,

For confidentiality purposes, please pretend my American name is Jack and my Korean name is Bob.

I am currently a senior applying to colleges and I'm wondering if my name might be an issue with my letters of recommendation.

I asked my teachers for my letters, but they know me Jack (my American name), but my legal name is Bob (my Korean name).

Would everything be okay if on the reports I put my Korean name, but in the letters they address me by my American name? Or could this possibly create confusion?

Would a solution to this be writing about this on my common app extra info section? Or should I just tell my teachers to write about me using my Korean name?

Or are there other better alternatives?

Thank you!

I think you should put your legal name as your Korean name (if that’s the case). Then, for your preferred name, put your English name.

Your legal name should be the name on your birth certificate. Assuming that is the korean name, include that in the app. There is a section on the app that asks for a nickname. List your American name there.

So by both of your comments, does that mean it’s not necessary to tell my teachers to use my Korean name instead of my English name as long as I write about this on my app?

Yes, it is not necessary.
