Is it possible to take this over the summer at a community college then transfer the credits to UCLA, or must the class be taken at UCLA?

You can take the equivalent of English Comp 3/satisfy the Writing I requirement at a community college over summer, yes. If the college you want to attend is in the LA area, you can probably find that equivalent course listed on the college’s articulation agreement with UCLA here: [Articulation Agreements](http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/articulations/articulationlist2.htm).

If the community college doesn’t have an articulation agreement available on that site, you can check the UC transferable course list for the college on assist.org. The course will be from subject area “UC-E” and IGETC area 1A. It should be first transferable English course that all community college students have to take (probably English 1, 1A, or 101) .

Thanks. But I also found this:

[HENRY SAMUELI SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCE](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/archive/catalog/2005-07/catalog/catalog05-07coll-4.htm)

Doesn’t that mean I can only take it at UCLA or another UC campus?

Since you’re in engineering and not L&S, you might want to talk to a counselor. For L&S students, the articulation agreements should apply.
