How are these departments? I know SLO isn’t known for them…

While Cal Poly SLO is better known for programs such as engineering and architecture, I hear that they have a pretty good english program. I got accepted early decision for journalism, but I honestly haven't heard too much about it. I'm sure it must be pretty decent though.

Hey what were your stats? So I can compare? Do you know if it is easy to get into SLO for these types of majors? How much so?

My stats were for the ACT were: 28 compposite, 33 English, 28 Reading, 27 Science, and 22 Math. It is easier to get into Cal Poly for these majors, since they are less competitve than ones like architecture or engineering. Even though there are fewer applicants for these programs, I'm sure they still pick the best ones. The application process is pretty fair though, because you only compete for a spot in your chosen major against other applicants who have the same major. In other words, if you chose to major in English, they won't be comparing your grades and test scores with engineering applicants. So I guess it is quite a bit easier to get into SLO for these types of majors as long as you have fairly high grades and score well on at least the English portion of tests. I hope I didn't write too much and I hope this helps!

And GPA about 3.6, but I'm not sure because my school recalculated it.

Okay so you are in my range.... That's good to know. Do you like it so far? Is it too crowded, because my step-sis, whose friends all go there, says it is horribly crowded.

I actually applied for fall 09 so I don't go there yet. But I did hear that they have some overcrowding with the dorms and stuff, but it should be better now since they openned Poly Canyon village. But I chose the school because I loved the atmosphere and just about everything else about the school. It seemed like a really great place with friendly people.

Oh. Okay. That's good to know. Thanks. :)
