Is English major hard at Vanderbilt university? Is it easy to get good GPA? Can I do premed with English major? Thank you very much!
You might be able to do premed as an English major, but its not likely to turn out well. Most premed students are stem majors, since you have to take multiple chem, bio, and math classes for the premed requirement. At Vanderbilt, you’d have to take 11 stem classes (and some non-stem) for the premed requirement. As for the English major, Vanderbilt is one of the best universities in the country, of course it’ll be hard. VU offers 3 different concentrations for English majors: Lit Studies, Creative Writing, or Specialized Studies. Depending on what you choose and what you’re good at, one may be harder than the other. Getting a good GPA will depend on how you do in your classes and the types of classes you take.
D17 is CS premed. She found the writing classes easier than premed and CS classes. She took two per premed advisors’ advice. But she is a strong writer, writing for Vandy publications as well as other media.
The question is not whether English major is hard or not. It is whether that is your best backup plan if medicine doesn’t work out.
Best of luck!
