My daughter didn't realize until registration that 10 more points on her SAT would have exempted her from both 101 and 102. She was initially disappointed and wished she'd retaken the SAT. Now that she's in her first semester, eng 102 is her favorite class. The class size is small (fewer than 20) and the professor great. It turned out to be a good thing in her case.

I was exempted from 101 and 102, but I know that you can also take specific English classes geared toward your academic interests that fulfill those requirements, like business, law, and biology or chemistry. My friend is in English 102 with the law focus and absolutely loves it.

Also, keep in mind that Eng 101 & 102 are not literature classes at all--you'll focus pretty much entirely on composition and rhetoric, so there's a lot of writing, but the professors seem to try to make the papers interesting. My roommate did a pop culture unit and wrote a five-page paper evaluating the themes of a music video of her choice..

So if you're exempt from 101 and 102, do they recommend you to take another english/writing class to help with college writing? Especially if you are a business major. Honestly, I don't think a 700 on the writing portion of the SAT shows that you are capable of being exempt from 101 and 102. I mean, I got a 700 on that but I am afraid I'll be at a disadvantage if I skip 101 and 102.

I got a 710 and I see what you're saying but at the same time, 6 credit hours, is just that, 6 credit hours and two less classes to take.
