Engri 1820 vs 1170

Intro to MechE and Electricity Lights Camera Action. Not sure which one. I’m here for ECE but both sound interesting. Which one is generally more hands on? And which will be more helpful regardless of if I continue ECE or not?

Depends on your preference. If you’re sure you want to do ECE and there’s no possible way you’d change your mind, there’s two options:

  1. Take 1820 because you'll be taking many ECE classes later on and this'll give you some insight into another engineering field
  2. Take 1170 so you can start your ECE 'career' right away

Technically speaking, the labs in Intro the MechE are an hour or so longer (I think, you can check on student center). MechE and ECE by their nature are hands-on majors, so it can’t hurt taking either one regardless of whether you continue with ECE or not. If you’d like to choose the class you feel you’d do best in, check who’s teaching both and see their ratings on rate my professor (you’ll be surprised how many of us do that before taking a class). Usually intro classes are pretty well taught, so it just comes down to personal choice in the end.

I think Daedric has the classes backwards. 1170 is MechE, not 1820. Anyways, I would strongly recommend taking 1170 because you’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn more about electrical engineering later. Your ENGRI shouldn’t be to learn stuff that you’ll end up relearning anyway–take a different discipline and expand your horizons.

@nsun200 oops o.O Thanks for clarifying!
