ECs:

  • 12 year pianist that entered the annual scholarship honors competition in my school’s conservatory (1 of 8 pianists of 32 musicians), I perform in bi-monthly recitals as well. For all you music fanatics out there, I played Waldstein Mov. 3 Sonata by Beethoven, I planning to learn Moment Musicaux no.4 by Rachimaninoff. (I suggest listening to them, they are both beautiful, classical pieces)
  • Secondary instrument - Flute for Marching Band. (Nothing exceptional here unfortunately)
  • Interned abroad in Monterrey, Mexico for two weeks at a Medical University and Hospital. Hands-On experience in major. Got to work in the environment with doctors and nurses. Not just pushing a food cart around but actual hands-on material. Essay will be regarding this internship.
  • I attended a medical congress in another state where I was able to meet and be lectured by world-class scientists about their achievements and how I can aspire to do the same.
  • I, along with another friend of mine, founded a collaborative open-domain website for our school to use to help prepare for AP Tests and Classes with interactive mobile app and quizzes. Includes a working team of 24 students (Who are all divided into different roles, ex: Section manager, Secretary, and etc) who help keep the website online and on the same track as the curriculum. (Covers over 15 major AP Classes, more like a database then anything). Like any large project, still in the works of improving interactive and etc.
  • Marching band
  • National Performing Indoor Ensemble (Basically a indoor marching band, we travel yearly to perform for the national championships)
  • I used to do sports until I found a more innate passion for music. So I am hesitant to include anything here.
  • Over 250+ hours of community service
  • I have worked a paid job in a working environment, which includes working with seniors and the homeless.
  • (POSSIBLY) I’m considering writing some articles to publish to the newspaper regarding certain issues in my city.
  • Resume will be multi-media with pictures and videos, not a bulletin on a piece of paper XD.
  • Arts Outreach where I taught students how to play a instrument.

Personal:

  • I had a avid love for medicine since I was a child at the tender age of 4, I would always play the ‘doctor’ in my family home and dream that one day that would change from fiction to reality.
  • Im not the type of person who goes around doing every sport and every event, rather, I am a person who enjoys focusing on one talent and refining that talent to perfection.
  • I am a VERY confident person (quite opposite to my parents), not the type who brags or says they can do anything though, but a person who refuses to accept defeat as a answer. While I know that there are limits to my abilities, I only yearn to be the best that I can be, regardless of whatever everyone tells me. Throughout my whole life, I have always been told that I was a bright student, but however, a student who doesn’t have the capacity to accomplish anything. I was the literal definition of a loner, and was bullied at a young age. I took that as a challenge from elementary school to better myself as a whole, and work to become something greater than I can imagine. I went from a failing student to a mediocre student in JH to a top 10% student in HS. Throughout my whole life, perhaps, I was always told that I wasn’t capable of anything. I used to be a student that threw rocks at others, and a student who would cheat and get suspended for dumb stuff in elementary and JH. However, ever since then, I have taken each insult as a push towards becoming better, and I feel that I have reached the stage of my life where I have become the person I once believed as a distant dream. My dream is to contribute to society and make a difference in the world that we all call ‘home’. Even if that legacy is minute, I want to be apart of a ‘revolution’ that benefits everyone.
  • I consider myself quite a futurologist. I always look towards the future and yearn to make a difference in the world, no matter how small or minute.
  • My family came from China and they didn’t receive a education, which makes a first generation student (We are not rich, but we want to be XD). Naturally, I am Asian.
  • I took a big hit on my first semester of Junior year where I took 4 APs and 2 Honors to challenge myself, despite receiving 4 Bs as a result, I was able to pull it all back together second semester where I received all As. I do hope that reflects me in a more positive then negative light as I heard Cornell look for rigorous students.
  • I love to learn, discover, and achieve. While I don’t believe I am the qualified, nor the most talented individual, I feel that I am the most prepared for the trials that await me in university.
  • I am confident that I am well-liked by my teachers and counselors, so the recommendations should be extremely positive but however not historically exceptional.
  • Private School
  • Essay will be regarding my internship at said university/hospital.

I thank you for reading this and spending your time to help me, your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Focus on getting your ACT score up. IMO, that’s the weakest link in what you shared. Be sure to have realistic match and safety schools on your list.

As an aside, your senior year grades wont be considered for ED.
