I’m trying to figure out if my D18 is applying to enough schools. Her stats: 3.95 uw, 4.2(ish) w, 32 ACT, good number of extracurriculars, including some that directly apply to her major. She wants to major in Japanese.
She’s applying to:
USCw
UCs: UCSD, UCI, UCSB, maybe Cal
SDSU.
And that’s about it! Am I wrong in thinking SDSU’s a safety for her? It certainly seems so based on Naviance, and she’s not applying to an impacted major which might make things dicey.
She really wants to only be in So. Cal. That + Japanese kind of limits her options for applying more broadly, especially in terms of a safety school. However, I don’t want her to come away with no acceptances either.
SDSU is a safety. As long is she is happy attending SDSU in case all the other schools deny her, then she is fine. Her stats look competitive for all the schools on her list so unless she wants a few more choices, her list is good. She could always add CSU Long Beach or CSU Fullerton for an additional safety and add UCLA for a Low Reach.
Yeah, she’d be happy with SDSU. Happier there than any other safety I could think of to add to her list. Thanks!
i think her list is fine. Since you have one private, perhaps apply to USD as well. Her stats may get her merit aid.
Good luck
@NCalRent I’ll suggest USD to her – she says she wants a school on the larger side but maybe USD is big enough. Definitely doesn’t want a school where the student body is 2000 or less. I’d normally nix a Catholic school but a quick google makes it seem like it isn’t ‘too Catholic’.
