Entering as an Undecided Major?

Hello,
I am an incoming Freshman for the class of 2023. Class registration is creeping up, and I am unsure of exactly how to go about creating my first semester schedule when I am not sure what it is I really want to do.
I am interested in the business school, perhaps on a pre-law track. However, I know myself, and I know that it is fairly likely that my plans will change at some point during my time at Emory.
My concern is that by filling my first semester or two with BBA requirements, I’ll end up screwed later on if I decide to pursue another major.
Is it advisable to get some of my GERs done first, that way I could explore my academic interests?
Thanks!

You don’t need a “pre-law” track and you can go to law school with any major.

As for the business school, the pre-business requirements (other than financial accounting, etc.) are similar to those for Emory College. You won’t be thrown off track for any major by looking to take the pre-business requirements. You should email or call Jess Lowy or Libby Egnor who advise all pre-business majors.

Depending on what AP credits you are using you may not need to fill your schedule with any business pre-reqs just yet. You could conceivably just take gen eds to start. I think my son’s first semester will most likely be just gen eds and not business requirements.

Hi! I just finished my first year at Emory. At first, I was also undecided, but I managed to take a lot of interesting classes that revealed my interests. While filling requirements is important, I’d also make sure you try out many different courses your first year. Emory really encourages this. Definitely take courses in all different subjects, while keeping GER’s in mind. I don’t know much about the BBA requirements since I’m not into business, so I’d look more into that and see if it’s ok to only partially fill those requirements your first year. Honestly, my first year I focused on exploring different courses, different activities, and meeting new people, and I think that’s very important for any first year.

Hi! Sorry I know this was a while ago, but do you mind sharing your major and a few classes that you’d recommend? Thanks!

I looked again at the original post. Considering that like 1/4 of GBS students double major in the college, I don’t think you should have any problems either doing that or shifting to another major if you want to. All you have to do is choose an intro. course or accessible elective in another department you may consider majoring in. You have lots of time and room to explore. Trust me. You do not need to be concerned about your plans already unless it is in something like a bio, chem, or NBB where completing a core sequence or associated core sequence earlier is more helpful than not.
