Entertainment law consists largely of drafting and negotiating employment agreements, and licensing agreements (the right to display a copyrighted work on a television network, for example). It sounds a little more glamorous than it probably is. Do you really care that much whether it will be Madonna or a CEO executing the contract you're drafting?

On the other hand, I did go to school with a guy who segued from being an entertainment lawyer into movie production.

If I were determined to do entertainment law, I would probably try to go to law school in L.A. or New York.

I know someone who works for Universal, used to work for Orion, and went to Stanford law in the 80s. I would imagine a top three school might be a decent place to go, even if it's not strong in the field.
