Just out of curiosity what was your salary for the first entry level job you had right out of college?

It depends on location.

I graduated Rutgers University - New Brunswick with a BS Computer Science with zero debt. I applied to a few software engineer level 1 positions at a couple defense contractors. I accepted an offer for $80,000/year out of the Baltimore, MD area. Because of the generous military leave policy with most defense contractors, I made about $105,000 in my first year by double dipping. I worked about 35 hours a week on average and had over 4 weeks of vacation. In order for me to accept a position in NYC or any high cost locale, they would have needed to guarantee me at least $200,000/year to match the standard of living in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Polo08816, can you please tell me which company you worked for?

The big tech companies pay $100,000-110,000 plus non-trivial stock and various bonuses.

It depends so much on the field. Tech and engineering are definitely going to be the top earners.
