Environmental Chemistry PhD

I hope someone here can answer my questions because I've been a bit flustered lately with this. I'm currently an undergrad environmental chem major (senior) looking to apply for a PhD position. I'm interested in both soil and water chemistry but I'm finding it incredibly difficult/confusing trying to locate which school departments I should be applying to. Would it make a different if I apply to an environmental studies or soil and crop science department rather than chemistry? Will I be taking the same classes regardless of my department? Also, which environmental chemistry field would be the best idea for me to pursue?

I have a few colleges that I am looking into (SUNY ESF, University of Delaware, Virginia Tech, UC Davis, and Cornell) and most seem to have soil and crop science departments which may be the road I'm looking to take but I'm not exactly sure. In the future, I'd like to do remediation/environmental quality work and research as well.

Any advice?

I suggest you look at the Professor bios at the schools you listed above and see which Profs. perform research that lines up with your interests and goals. I would then contact the ones that seem like the best match and see what they say. You might need to acquire a MS before entering a PhD program.
