Environmental Consulting

Hello!

As I am trying to figure out what to do with my life after finishing college, I have been looking a lot into what kind of jobs I can get with my degree. Environmental consulting SOUNDS interesting to me, but it is hard to gauge what the job is really like based off of short job listings. Does anyone know the job outlook for environmental consulting? And/or have any experience with the job to provide more insight into what duties your perform?

OR, and even more open ended question: What the heck can I do with my future earth and environment degree

You could potentially work in the private sector for a mining/oil/energy company, some sort of non-proft, or work in the public sector as a park ranger, game warden, DNR type thing.

OP, “environmental consulting” and “earth and environment” degree are pretty broad areas. Are there certain areas within those broad categories that interest you most? You also didn’t indicate how far along you are in your degree program or whether your program focuses on natural science/technical aspects of science the field vs. social/policy aspects. Do you have any specialized skill sets, e.g., GIS? What internships might be available to you?
I would suggest you try to identify some specific areas where your interests intersect with likely ongoing environmental issues, e.g. adapting to climate change, sustainability, natural hazards, emergency management, water resources, energy auditing, etc.
