Hello,

I am debating switching my major (to Environmental Engineering). My current major is pre-architecture (starting Fall 2008) however I've realized recently that architecture may not be for me.

What do you know about enviro engineering?
How difficult of an engineering major is it?
What does it generally focus on?

I have a general interest in the environment, and I figured that this major would be good. Another quick question - how much physics is involved in this because physics is one of my weak points :(

look on the registrar's website so see how much physics you gotta take. It's not accredited, and you still have to take thermo and statics and all those other engineering courses...I'd discuss it with an advisor

I emailed admissions about the program. It appears as though its a new degree and in order to be accredited it must have one graduate (lol) which apparently it doesn't yet. I think it said it started in 2006, so that means in 2010 there will be a graduate and it should be accredited by 2011. This is confusing...i need to find an advisor.

you have time...just wait until school starts and take the intro classes (they're the same no matter what major you are) and talk to an advisor face to face. You can them for any major/minor/pre-professional track here: Academic Advising :: Georgia Institute of Technology

My son is interested in environmental engineering and met with an advisor. It was recommended that he pursue an undergrad in civil engineering and grad in environmental engineering. I think this is good advice for 2 reasons: 1) civil will expose him to all areas of civil, which includes environmental; 2) some states, GA included, are considering passing a licensing requirement that you have to have a masters to receive your PE. Obtaining your Masters in Environmental Engineering would fill this requirement.

My son is currently taking statics and they had their first test this week. A third of the class failed. Fortunately he did fine.

There are great opportunities for civils in the co-op program. Working will help you solidify your choice of a major.
