Environmental Engineering?

What are your views on environmental engineering? Many say that they believe it is full of politics. Some say that engineers sometimes don't consider as an official form of engineering. What is it like? Especially for anyone who works or is majoring in this field.

Are there any environmental engineering majors out there?

Firstly, how can it not be considered an official engineering when it is often included as a specialization in other disciplines such as Chemical engineering or civil engineering?

Along with everything else in America, engineering in general is full of politics. Why would the government leave this profession alone? There is much fun to be had with regulation, etc.

Your problem is that you believe what you read on this board. That is scary.

I think the original poster might be confusing environmental engineers with environmental activists. The latter are the ones who are so political, which wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that many of the new environmental laws and requirements that they propose are technically unfeasable. Such as wastewater treatment requirements that are stricter than drinking water requirements. If more environmental engineers were active politically, they could balance some of this out, but it’s the untrained activists who get the politician’s ear.

I don’t automatically believe people on here. I have researched into it greatly and read people’s views on it from many sites. I’m asking a simple question people. What is environmental engineering like? I am really considering it for a grad degree from chemical engineering.

funny enough everyone though you were a high school student :)

So basically, what do you think of environmental engineering? What does it entail? Is it good for a chemical engineering degree to enter into that field? Thanks for any help…

i think you should go into business. accounting is one of the best professions out there and it is recession proof. you can make a huge amount once u start, its anywhere from 40k to 55k. that is pretty damn good for a starting salary. accounting is god

Why would I go into accounting if it’s something I don’t want to do? Don’t look at the pricetag, look at how it compares to what you enjoy.

Env Eng is a mix between chem eng and civil, more civil I would say. Starting salary will probably be in the range of mid 50s to low 60s and work in anything ranging from water treatment to remediation of superfund sites. It’s not the most glamorous job and often we do get dirty.

If you don’t want to get dirty, don’t go into this field. I would suggest that a chem eng would go into pharm school or some biotech firm to make more money. My 2 cents.
