My impression from reading the website is that Environmental Studies is not a major at Haverford. It is a concentration, and is based at Bryn Mawr. There are 6 courses required for the concentration, so presumably one would major in another field and add a concentration in Environmental Studies. The program does not appear to have professors of its own, but professors from other departments like geology, english, chemistry & anthropology.

Thanks, dadX3.
That was what I gathered -- but I'm a little puzzled.
Recently I read that Haverford had one of the
best Environmental Studies depts around...

Well, with BMC's classes and the freedom to build
a concentration, it could be very exciting, I suppose.
And it could match up with poli sci nicely...

Anyone explored this concentration recently?
Any poli sci majors have a minute to comment on
their impressions? Much appreciated --

Thanks,
Ottoline

Have you checked the Enviro Studies web page?

It’s a small program but one benefit with a LAC education is that it encourages interdisciplinary frameworks and fluid thinking. In my experience, this type of education is valuable because it allows you to synthesize relationships between seemingly disparate disciplines… which can often inform new perspectives because different academic fields approach their subject matter uniquely.

In the case of the enviro concentration, if you major in molecular bio at HC, you can work with the microbiologist who’s research is on drug resistance in bacteria (disease outbreaks), or you can major in chemistry, geology, econ and poli sci with obvious environmental overlaps, and even major in topics like comparative lit, anthro and religion (comparing how the environment is perceived in different religions and cultures?). There’s also the CPGC which funds ### social justice type projects each year, the peace studies concentration and the medicine and society concentration for you to tap as well.
