Hi !
I am going to be a senior next year and wish to take Physics C (both Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism). The problem I face is that our school is relatively small for a public school and there is very little interest amongst our students in Physics C and hence, the school is no longer offering the course as the teacher, who had previously tought by web-cam and occasionally came to our school by appointment by last years students, has declined to teach the class. I am also taking Physics B next year (in neighbooring schools Physics BC is widely tought).

To the point, my inqury was whether I had the qualifications to enroll in a program like EPGY. I have a 700 SAT I MATH (im retaking in fall though) and 750 and 760 on the US and BIO M SAT II respectively and 3.8 GPA.

Are you trying to enroll in the summer session of EPGY or just the distance learning course? I was going to do Accelerated Physics this summer at the "real" EPGY summer program but then I couldn't make it to America. Thus, I opted to do their distance learning Physics C class over the Internet.

So, if you are looking for the summer institute, the deadline had passed awhile ago I think. If you are looking into the distance-learning course, I recommend it as I learned quite a lot from their online Physics course. The distance learning course is also much cheaper than the summer institute, which is also a plus. You are free to begin any EPGY distance-learning course on the first of each month, so if you hurry, you can catch the July course. (Physics C: Mechanics and E&M both last for three months, which means you will probably finish all of Physics C by the end of 2005, though you are free to go at a faster pace if you wish).

Im looking for a class over the fall so as of know I am not concerned with the summer deadlines. thank you for your helpful responses though.

I was also curious as to the cost of each class and again if someone could further elaborate on the admissions requirments for attending a class (do you have to be the "stellar" student, or just ranked above average for your age ?) Do they ask for a previous transcript or other grades (SAT I, SAT II )

The cost of Physics C class is $450 for Mechanics and $450 for E&M, which is considerably cheaper than their summer institute, taking into account the fact that the cost of the summer institutes are in the thresholds of $3,000+.

You definately do not have to be a "stellar" student to enter a class. When I enrolled, they did not even ask me for my scores (though, I'm not sure, they might have gotten my scores and transcript from the summer institute app I sent them). But at any rate, if you are not failing high school, I think you will get in. For each course there are prereqs, and although I don't think EPGY has a way to varify that you actually took the classes you're supposed to take, it is a good idea to have the necessary prereqs before enrolling. For example, Physics C requires Calc BC (or AB).

Do they give discounts if you take a certain number of courses ? Physics C would also require Physic B as a prerequisite ?! What are your qualifications generally ? just want to see if I would match up so if you feel a bit wierd feel free to tell me to get lose but i dont need real specifics

... Also is there an area where they list the prices of other courses or do they just list them when you enroll ?

I don't think they give discounts...Stanford for the most part is pretty cheap (they don't even give financial aid for their summer institutes). I don't think Physics C requires Physics B in advance. I only took high school Physics and they accepted me. Basically I didn't do anything extraordinary, and I don't think EPGY is looking for anyone who did anything stellar either.

If you want more information on courses, pricing, and such details, it may help you the most if you just visit their website: www-epgy.stanford.edu.
