so our orientation is coming up on Sept. 15/16
the thing is i dont have a housing contract so i will be commuting.
and our orientation guidelines says the following:

Participation:
Because the student orientation program has been carefully designed just for you, you are expected to attend all sessions and stay with the program at all times, you will not be permitted to leave campus during Orientation.

Do not plan to leave the program early.

are there exceptions to these rules.. i mean i will be commuting so i cant stay overnight which means that i can go home at 10:00 PM... and im not a huge fan of driving in the night after a long day.

Also it says that breakfast is at 7:30 AM the following day so does this mean that commuters should show up or what? or can we come after breakfast?

oh yeah don’t worry, orientation will be over by dinnertime, definitely by 10 pm. i imagine if you explain your situation to your orientation leader, s/he will let you come later than 7:30am. if i recall correctly, they don’t even keep track of you that morning so i really don’t think it matters… just don’t come TOO late afterward. is it the breakfast with provost thing? if it is, they don’t even keep track of you.

I went to orientation last year. My orientation days were (like yours) the days before everyone is set to move in. If you are not moving into the dorms then you are not suppose to stay over night because you will be taking someones room. Last year we had dinner, went to another info session, and then you were free to do whatever- its college no one is watching you. You are free to leave after the last info session and come back the next morning. If you know someone that is dorming and they will let you crash there take advantaged of that. As far as orientation starting at 7:30 you really don’t have to be there at that time. I remember I went there right at 7:30 (we met at cafe v) and I was one of the only people on time. People starting coming in at around 8-8:30 to eat breakfast.

Also, I knew people that left in the middle of the first day of orientation to explore sd, some that only came to the second day, and some that just disappeared. Really as long as you’ve paid for the orientation it doesn’t matter what you do. However, I strongly recommend going to both days

oh ok sweet thanks.
i did want to explore the campus and visit all my classes and the library to make sure i knew where it was, cool. ill do those things after i get my ID card then !!!

Your idea card is the last thing you get at orientation. That and filing out an orientation evaluation. Then they just set you free. Welcome to college
