What happens at orientation?

Is orientation only about academics? Or does the student get a look at housing and other activities? Is it two full days? And what do parents do during that time?
Thanks for any details as none have come from UCSD yet.

It depends on what college you are in, although I’m sure they’re all fairly similar. For ERC orientation, you attend various academic presentations and the OLs do some skits that answer more social/college life questions. You stay in the dorms and eat at the dining halls so it allows you to get acquainted with the college. I think ERC’s was more like 1.5 days. Parents have separate sessions during the day. In addition, there is a dance and fun activities at night for students. You’ll get more information from UCSD in late May, and they’ll post sample orientation schedules soon.

I’ll vouch for Muir orientation being basically the exact same thing. 1.5 days nails the time right on, and orientation is generally just a fun experience. Except for the part on GE’s. Besides that though, meet people and kick back!

Thanks. Sounds better than we thought! Anyone experience Revelle orientation? Revelle seemed subdued on Admit Day, but then we were just looking through a pinhole, right?

I heard you make most of your friends during orientation. Haha, I’m overly excited.

No, you’ll sign up for classes in August online with all other freshmen.

I’m looking forward to this!
