This is a very weird situation. Basically, I took a practice test from the Blue Book yesterday (Test 7 in the old version and Test 9 in the new version), and I scored a 2300 (800 math, 800 writing (assuming 11/12 essay), and 700 critical reading). Today, I took the October 2010 SAT (my cousin had the QAS from when she took it), and miraculously scored a 2400 (perfect in math, -1 in critical reading, and -1 in writing (assuming 11/12 essay)). I usually get 800’s in math and writing so that wasn’t the surprising part. What was surprising to me was the fact that I jumped 100 points within a day (or -7 to just -1). Is that even possible? Is it because the BB test is harder than usual, or that the October 2010 SAT is easier than usual? Aren’t all SAT’s (even from as far back as 2010) supposed to be similar in difficulty since the SAT is a standardized test? Did I just improve a lot overnight? I’m really happy that I scored a 2400 and everything, but I’m scared about my erratic critical reading scores. What if I score -7 on the upcoming October SAT? I just want an accurate measure of my abilities in order to know what to study for and how much time will be required. Thank you in advance :).
The better you score, the more chance of a few points of variance at the high end. If you are consistently scoring 2300+ you will be fine.
Definitely possible and probably not that unusual. For example, I think its very common to get 4-5 wrong on a section that one typically gets 0-1 wrong on. People’s mindsets differ every day, certain tests are harder/easier for certain people, etc.
