Errors on CSS Profile

I made a Significant error on my CSS profile in a question regarding Assets value. I found out after i got Accepted To Cornell University ED. My financial aid oackage is yet to arrive
Should i inform them or will it look bad?

In whose favor is the error? Are you actually entitled to more than your submitted CSS would indicate, or less?

Im not sure whether its a good thing
But it will definitely work in my favour.

Inform them.

Im an international applicant and given that i was expected to Disclose this information earlier but i have unfortunately found out too late …will it seem like i showed em more money so that they could admit me and as soon as they did i gave em a reason to give me more aid than they expected to give me?

My vote is to inform them…

As I see it, you have two choices:

  1. Don’t inform them - Then you are paying more than you can afford or you have to turn down their offer due to a FA package that doesn’t meet your ability to pay. Or can you still afford the higher amount, just prefer (as anyone would) not to?

  2. Inform them - With this option you will either get a better package (yay), or not (then you are back to item 1).

According to their site, they are need-blind for international, but don’t guarantee to meet everyone’s need so you may not get your full need anyway.

@ClaremontMom Thank you so much you’ve made it seem very clear. I thought Cornell was need aware for us international students but since they are need-blind surely they won’t think i made the mistake so that i could fool em into accepting me (its not even that much money if converted to US Dollars)

So since its need-blind and is it safe to say they cannot rescind my admission thinking im fraudulent?

I think colleges can rescind acceptances if they believe they have a reason. But if you have paperwork that supports your claim, you’re just updating estimates with actual numbers.

@austinmshauri I honestly cannot back it up with any paperwork its just a mathematical error

@Michaelog, What kind of assets are they? Where did you get the original figures from? If it’s cash in bank accounts, there should be statements. If it’s property, there should be a way to value it.

Property
The question asked what is the value of all your property other than your Home
I mistakenly put the value of the house together with the other assets

There should be paperwork for that. Whatever you used to get the value of the property should show what the real value is. Just contact the college and explain that you mistakenly included the value of your home. I don’t think they’ll think anything of it. If it appeared you were hiding assets that could be used to pay for college, that might make them suspicious, but this sounds like a simple error.

Now im not sure what to do.
I think i will just not report it

Why wouldn’t you report something that could possibly save you money? You weren’t hiding anything. You simply made a mistake filling out the form. You aren’t the first student who’s ever made such a mistake and you certainly won’t be the last.

Thats true. I just hope it doesn’t work against me in the end. If I were hiding It wouldn’t even be in the CSS…
