Essay Formatting...

So most online apps ask for a work document. I'm thinking a .doc (Word 2003) file, using a standard single spaced Arial 10 and extra space between paragraphs no indent between paragraphs. What do you think

It would look like this

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

I would also like to know an answer.

Arial 10? extra space in between? Where did you hear that?

hmm, bump.

Single or double spaced? I have single currently, with a space between paragraphs (auto format from Word 2007) and I think it looks nice...

doh -- I indented my paragraphs, & I think you should too. Also, 12 font, Times New Roman. That's the MLA standard. Just my opinion though.

I thought MLA meant double spacing, because in class we 'supposedly' follow MLA, but we still double space. Is this just the teacher's preference.

Oh yes, MLA format does include double-spacing. I was referring only to the standard font type and size.

My confusion has to do with the fact that many on CC are saying that your essay should fit onto one page, and others are then saying that it should be double-spaced. It is not possible to do both.

So... what to do?

hmm... bump...

bump. same question. I need to know whether its acceptable to cram in an essay in 9 point font, single spaced, onto one sheet of paper.

Definitely single spaced. A space between paragraphs is fine in lieu of paragraph indenting. Paragraph indenting and no space between paragraphs is also fine. I prefer the space between paragraphs in lieu of paragraph indenting because electronically sent indenting doesn't always appear to the receiver the same way it previewed to the sender.
