Essay ideas?

I’m currently a junior, but seeing as Common App prompts are out, I guess it’s time to start planning.
Would it be acceptable to write an essay as a series of short anecdotes relating to my most passionate EC (a STEM event for which I have won several national awards)? I’m going for a light-hearted feel while describing how each event altered my perspective of the world and what I wanted to pursue in the future. I feel as though it would lack an element of coherency, and would instead proceed as a monologue.

Out of curiosity, what is this EC? I will be writing about HOSA for mine. I just wanted to see what you were so interested in haha.

I like it, but make sure that all of the anecdotes flow together, and don’t get off topic.

I think that sounds like a good idea. However, I see your concern. You might have to be pretty skillful to pull it off. Make a rough draft, sit on it, and go back to it every so often. See how it evolves.

Write about llamas, llamas are pretty chill

A suggestion: do not even think about the essay until you are done with ACT/SAT as well as school year. In other words do not divert your attention from stuff that matters.

When you do get to the essay, what will unite the anecdotes will be a sense of who you are. What is it about you that motivates you to engage in these anecdotes? Providing a sense of why you do “it” will be the connective tissue that prevents the anecdotes from feeling random.

I find your idea quite appealing.I would advice making it as personal as you can.I also think you linger on the edge of bragging(even though you write with a positive tone ,overall your topic seems a little braggy). But overall I think you should go for it.

There is nothing wrong about bragging in a college essay as long as you also convey a sense that you are only emphasizing your achievements this one time and that it isn’t a part of your character.
