Essay length/quality?

<p>I just finished my first draft of my essay for my Topic of choice, and I have around 940 words. Is that too much? Im sure I can cut down on some to maybe 850 words fairly easily, but will having 850+ words hurt me in any way when applying to schools?</p>

<p>Also can anyone read my essay and give me some critique, I am more of a math/science person and naturally am not the best at writing essays</p>
